I've got a gas 656 that I like a lot. Mine starts well in winter, never had a problem with that. The hitch is very slow to go down in cold weather, until hyd oil warms up a little. Steering & hyd are good, fuel usage is proportional to load, just using to feed, etc., it's not bad at all. But pull a plow or disc & watch the fuel gauge fall. I gave $4000 for mine 5 yrs ago. They're good tractors.

These Tractors have a good reputation. The hydro version can eat a good size lottery winning check. I've never had a problem starting either the gas or diesel versions of these engines and we have had several over the years. On the standard tranny the shifting linkage can wear but they are repairable. For value I can't say

Is this a hydro or geared one? We ran a gas hydro for a few years and it was a great tractor. They are terrible starting in the winter. Once they get warmed up, they are fine, but keeping them running long enough is a bit tricky. After that, we didn't really have any problems with ours. It needed and overhaul when we bought it, and after that, it didn't burn any oil and ran fine. The gases do take a lot of gas to keep going, and if you are riding the seat a lot in the summer, take an asprin, cause a headache is a given. Due to IH's engineering genius, the gas tank sits on top of the head and half the tank will boil away. Not much worse than a gas headache. Value, who knows. Depends on locations, hours, tires, all that fun stuff. We sold our gas, hydro, narrow front 3 pt one with near new rears and a set of front weights to my uncle for $5500. It was in very good shape, no rust, great tin (till I let a wagon get away from me), about as good as one gets.

Lots of tractors of many makes had the gas tank somewhere over the engine. I have never known one to boil out half a tank of fuel per day. The 656 is also a good starter. You must have had something bad wrong with yours. The 656 is a good tractor.
