The seal just started leaking. Any ideas on how to get to the seal? I'm not sure how to get the wheel hub off either.

Thanks Bob

OH Boy,

Maybe I can live with it for a while. I fear exactly what you say. How am I ever gona get the spline out after being in there all those years? You must have one BIG rose bud tourch to heat up that wheel hub.

I did exactly that, just live with it.I had one that came right off,no problems.Buy the other side wouldnt budge so I just left it.Now that gear oil has been leaking on it for about two years now,it slid right off.

John M,

When it slid off, did you use any kind of puller? I am going to start soaking it in penitrating oil now!!

Thanks Bob

Yep,one of those portable hydraulic deals.DiDnt really need it,a good whack with a big sledge hammer probably would have been easier and faster. It leaked for like 5 years, not a bad leak, but enough to let you know it as there and for the most part I just kept greasing it up and it would stop.Last tyear it got real bad and I finally had to do something about it.Jacked it up,took off the tire and put on the puller and it almost immeditaly came off.Enough gear oil had seeped into the splined area to act as a penetrating oil I guess because it was oily inside there.A buddy of mine has an I-6 that we couldnt get off.He took the bolt out and just rode around in circles like that and it eventually came loose.Thank goodness it didnt come all the way off!

restored a W4 a few years ago. replacing rear seals turned into about a 300.00 dollar job. getting the splined wheels off required taking the top off the rear end taking axle out and putting it in a 50 ton press with repeated heating and cooling. also bearings had to be cut off to get it in the press. hope you find an easier way.
