I need a picture of an alternator mounted on an A series. I"ve seen the pics of the H on this site ,but they were no help.

Brent: If you send an e mail, I can send you a photo of a Super A, 130 or 140. I'll have to check to see which photo will give best shot of alternator.

Basically the way I do it is use the double pulley used on older V8 Buick or Olds. This allows you to place the alternator back 1/2", thus you can place it lower and keep away from hood. I then weld a flat plate on top of old generator mount, and add tabs to it for holding alternator. That flared part of the engine casting is the item you must work around and the double pulley gives you that.

I just put an alternator on my "C". I used the same belt and adjusting arm and made a bracket to hold the bottom. The bracket mounts to the engine with the 5/8 bolt that holds the block to the front bolster. The adjusting arm I moved up from it's original location below the governor arm to the lower most bolt of the water neck and it lined up perfectly. Really, one of the easiest conversions I have done. To make the bracket I used 3/16 x 1 1/2 flat metal. I bent 2 separate pieces into a C shape, drilled 3/8 holes in one and bolted it to the alternator, 5/8 holes in the other and bolted it to the engine/bolster. Held the alternator in place with the belt on and a bolt through the adjusting arm and clamped the brackets together where they met, then welded them.

I have my 140 done with the 5/8 bolt, at the time it seemed like quite heavy attachments for an alternator. Not much danger of it falling off. 140 didn't have that same old generator mount as SA and 130.
