IH Wide Front

Here's a pretty good shot of an original IH wide front with the radius arms. Wonder if the little wedges are inside the frame rails as they should be?

The frame rails are made from ordinary box iron. If you look at the top and bottom of the box iron, it is thinner on it's inside tractor side than on it is on the outside tractor side where it meets the vertical portion of the box. (I know this sounds like mud)

Try it again: Due to the method of construction of the box rails, when you put that rearward bolt down thru the frame rail to secure the radius arm, the bolt wants to point outwards away from the tractor because the “inside edge to outside wall’ of the lower frame rail is built "angled". (Upper and lower, actually)

To get that bolt to point straight down and to be able to anchor it securely, IH used a little angled "washer" or "spacer" under the head of the bolt inside the box rail. This spacer compensated for the box iron’s built-in angle.

If this spacer is not installed, the bolt only touches the box rail on one side of it's head because the radius arm is holding it in a vertically straight manner.

Any of this make any sense?

I just posted this picture up because some of guys were having a little trouble telling the difference between the original and the aftermarket versions.
