Which would be better to run 85w-140 or 80-90w gear oil? Tractor sees moderate use. Temps 32-90 F. Also change oil twice year 30 wt warm nad 10w-30 winter. Is it ok to to keep same filter and only change once year usually use Baldwin or Wix as I said tractor is limited use? Thanks.

With those temp ranges, I'd say either gear oil wt. would be just fine. As far as the oil filter goes, I would change it at every oil change. Its cheap insurance.

Bob: There was an old timer, engine rebuilder in my hometown 40 years ago. He claimed it was more important to change the filter than the oil. I think it was just his way of suggesting that not changing filter was a complete waste of money in an oil change.
