I keep getting small drops of water in my distributor and around the points and condenser? I have not been out in the rain or washed it, any ideas?

W4- same as H motor.

If your engine has a lot of blowby, a restricted crankcase breather, or a badly worn distributor, any or all of these can contribute to moisture under the cap.

I believe the add-on battery ignition distributor would have a seal on the driveshaft, also.

Check the 2 small holes in the bottom of the distributor cap. They provide ventilation to cut down on condensation. It's been a long time, but if i remember correctly there is supposed to be a cover between the points and condenser, this also helps hold down condensation in addition to keeping carbon dust out of the points.

The cover in the distributor should also have a felt seal under the rotor. If you have blow by, greasing the distributor shaft might help for a while.

How would I know if I have blow by? What should I check for wear? I replaced the felt under the rotor, it was missing.

Just a thought Bob, you don't have water in your engine oil do ya ? If so it will evaporate when the engine warms up and some will likely re condense in your dist cap later.

I changed the oil and no water or now, antifreeze! I checked the distributor and it looks wet inside? The shaft also has play in it. IH has a new one for 265, or a rebuilt one can be had for 129. What to do, what to do.

With the side play in the shaft it does need to be fixed. Will run better with a rebuilt/new one anyway, not even copnsidering the water problem. The only time I have ever had a wet dist cap problem on my 2444 is after washing the engine or when it sits out for a while in the rain, but it is always the next day after washing. Do you have any coolant leaks on the engine ? My dist also has small plugs in the back side of the dist shaft to remove for greasing and then replace, maybe yours had the plugs left out and is letting water get in that way ??

I would buy a rebuilt one, should be ok. But then that is what I would do, you have to decide for you.

OOPS, the plugs are in the front side of the shaft housing, you remove the plugs and you grease till the grease comes out the holes in the back side, then replace the plugs in the front. Maybe there is no grease in the shaft and water is coming in the holes in the back of the dist shaft/housing.

Well at better look, all is snug and shaft does not have play, the play is in the part that goes over the top of the shaft. It looks as though it has been rebuilt before, a brass sleve is in the casting. There is water in the bases so I am going to dry it and put it back together and see what happens.
