My 41 H will only run in 5th gear when going down a hill. Otherwise it will stall out the motor. Any guess as to where I should look? Otherwise the tractor runs great (like a Farmall should).

Thanks.
Steve

My H used to do the same thing. I had a bad generator, when the rpm would slow in 5th gear it wouldn't charge enough to stay running. Just my 2 cents worth.

Define "stall out the motor". Is it sputtering and dies? Or do the RPMs decrease as you go uphill. If the latter, then I suspect a weak governor spring. Otherwise the other suggestion sounds like a good idea. Maybe running a tad lean.

We have a '46 H with a similar condition. I found that by enrichening the fuel mixture, it would pull the trailer up the hill in 5th gear.(empty trailer)
