Today I was asked by a friend to check out an old International tractor that has been sitting in a corner of a shed for the last 30 some years and when I arrived it turn out to be a International 4300 4WD tractor with the DT817. Can you IH guys give me alittle backround on this monster, is it an ag tractor or a industrial tractor? I'd like to know how many were made, serial numbers, if they had any problems, and pretty much what it's worth. Any information will be very much appreciated. Thanks guys for the help.

I was wondering whatever happened to the 4300 you found in that shed?

A very rare tractor and fairly valuable.Probably less than 20 left of the 40+ built.A 4300 owner in Ohio is keeping track of the survivors and would appreciate the serial #.

The 4300, although made by Hough, was IH's first four wheel drive ag tractor- the reason it's yellow is that's all that Libertyville shot in paint at the time. It was based off of Payloader technology, but it was designed for the ag market. Given that Libertyville wasn't an assembly line type factory, and a lot of the components were purchased, they tended to be on the expensive side and IH didn't sell a whole lot. There were some reliability problems that were taken care of with field packages as well. They do have their dedicated fans and are considered quite collectable. Most of the drivetrain is common parts from what I understand, might be wrong- transmission was an Allison if I remember right.

Well, I suppose technically it is an Industrial tractor, since they were built by IH's Hough Industrial division. They were built in the early '60's, had around 200 horsepower. I've heard that they built right around 40 of them. One of you guys should grab on to that tractor, probably one of the true IH collector's items.

The 4300 was made by the Hough (industrial) division of IH. A few months ago there was even one for sale in the photo ads. They were made around 1963. If you search this forum there was some information about them in some previous posts. Wish I knew more about them also.
