I don't know much about a 504. I believe they made utility versions and Farmalls. AM i right? When did they make it, how big is it, and is it any good? I saw a 504 Farmall nf diesel. No year specified. What tranny did they use, and what would a fair to good condition one be worth. Thanks so much.
Bill

Have a Farmall gas and has been a good tractor for me. The diesels are a four cylinder version of the sixes used in the bigger tractors of the era . With the 3pt and torque amp. live hyd. you can use them for many jobs. Seen one the other day for $1100 and one here, maybe last winter for over 5k, was nice and low houred.

1961 to 1968 The only one I have been around was a Utility they used a 5 speed trans with or without TA. Row crops came trycle or wide front. 46 HP was the rating. Even though they were a good tractor a lot of them were sold to replace m"s, don"t believe it. The Diesel"s were a 188 cid 4 cyl with glow plugs, Gas were 153, and though I"m not sure I think they were a non sleeved eng if gas, Diesel was sleeved

Jim: They certainly didn't match the M or SM. The one I had at 1,200 hours wouldn't hold a candle to my old Farmall 300 with about 15,000 hours. We had them both in field and tried both on 3x16 No. 60 plow. 300 took that one hands down.

I think the diesel was a decent tractor. I doubt if it would match a SM though, that 188 engine is just 2/3 of the 282 diesel, as used in the 560 and 656. Those engines all turned just under 2,000 rpm. 282 in the 706 turned, 2,300 to 2,400 rpm.

I knew a guy that traded a M for a 504gas utility he was pulling a 3 disc plow. He wasn"t getting along very good so he called his bro. He came over said where are your wheel weights James said they told me I didn"t need any, Bob said put wheel weights on it take off one disc and you might plow. This guy had an H also so it must have not done as good as the H either.
