Hi,Been having a problem with my 574. Around mid season it startd needing a really long time to warm up, and when increasing the throttle one had to choke the engine or it would stall. I bought a carb rebuild kit and cleaned and refurbished the carb (except for the throttle shaft and gskets, it was the wrong one for my carb). I also noticed the venturi was cracked, but since I didn"t have one I put it back in. I got the carb back together and nothing seems to have improved. I didn"t mess with the idle adjustment, it seems fine. But I am confused on the main jet adjustment-I can"t back it out 4.5 turns as my manual says, it will fall out! The carb is a Marvel Shebler TSX 980 with a solenoid cutout. Any ideas on where to go next? Am I barking up the right tree with the carb? Is it not adjusted properly? Could the solenoid be the problem--is there a way to make sure it is fully open? WOuld a cracked venturi cause these problems? What happens is when I increase the throttle, the engine pops and snorts and then dies. Under full choke I can increase throttle but under a load it will die. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also wondering if there is a way to make this guy less of a gas pig, and advice? Thanks in advance, paul
