I am helping a friend work on a Super C and the promblem has been identified as the float in the carburetor having gas inside it. Has anyone been successful at drilling a hole in the float and draining it and patching the hole. What would work best to reseal the hole and the seam on the float without adding a lot of weight? The local Farmall parts store said that they do not have any new floats as that would be the best fix. Any one know of a new or good used float for sale? The carburetor is a Carter and the tag was marked with 771SA.

Hi Brian, Is that Carter carburetor model UT2054?
I see from carbkits web site that carb was used on
a lot of IH tractors.

I haven't heard anymore from them. They called on Monday and needed the carb make. I gave them that info. Hal

Brian, Your float will have a crack or hole in it somrwhere. Put it in a kettle of boiling water, gasoline has a much lower boiling point than water so bubbles will come from the hole. When bubbles stop coming remove float from boiling water and solder the hole . It works.-- Harold

Hi Brian, Try this at www.carbkits.com; I've sent them an email not sure they're open on the weekends. When you bring this web site up put in that carburetor number that you posted. They are located in CA. If I hear from them I'll post it.
Hal
PS: I called a local place that rebuilds carburetors and he thought the float was available, but he couldn't check until Monday.

Hi Brian, Check with your local auto parts store
for a new float, NAPA, Autozone and PeP Boys.

The old float may be repairable using a soldering iron, but you need to get the gas out.

Hal,

We have tried all the local resources that are available and no one seems to have a float. The web site you posted has a kit but it does not say if it comes with a float. I will check with them on Monday. If your guy has a float let me know. Thanks for your help.

Brian

I'll check with the local shop on Monday to see if they can obtain a new float. I'll post the finding one way or the other. Hal
PS: I think that company in CA may have them.
