For my knowledge, what tests can I expect the shop to run on the generator, and what results clue me that the generator is performing up to par? thanks

You could always test it your self ..If it will motor it will generate.. Hook 12 volts to it with it not hook up to anything else ,that is disconect the fan belt and all wires if it starts turning it will generate.. Some times you have to play with which wire goes where but once it is unhooked you cant hurt it as long as you use a battery charger dont let it run to long just chech it .. See a generator is a motor ..

The shop should run a loaded current output test. Presuming it's a stock 3-brush Delco generator, a good one will output 12 - 15 amps with a terminal voltage of 7 - 7.5 volts, with the armature spinning at rated (2,000?) RPM.
