hi all,
I was hoping somebody could tell me what type of fluid to use throughout the tranmission and differential on a 3414 backhoe.I found 3 drain plugs-2 in the trans area (behind the bell housing)and 1 on the differential. Can I refill the fluid thru the hole next to shifter and will it fill all 3 areas. I can"t seem to find any other fill plugs and I"m having trouble locating the level plugs. Also what year tractor would this be with a serial# 696? Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Hi, if the 3414 is the same as the B414, the transmission had gear oil like #90 and was filled from the plug by the gear shift lever.
If my memory is correct, I believe the transmission level was cheched via a small plug on the side of the transmission case about half way up from the bottom and just under the foot rest. Can't remember if it was on clutch or brake side but believe it was on clutch side.

The hydraulic system used IH Hytran and was filled from the plug on top of the casting behind the seat.

Good luck

Hy-Tran is always acceptable in IH.

Level plug should be left side, lower than you'd think.

I think the one fill fits all.
