I have a 1948 Farmall Cub. I have a guy working on it and he is very good but can't seem to get it running. He has adjusted the valves and it is on time. We have put a couple of other maginitos on it and it will run really weak for about 5 seconds and then it will turn off. He is going to try to adjust the timing using the 4th piston instead of the 1st. Can anyone tell me anymore suggestions on what to do now. Thanks Andre' Burnham

I have a 1950 Farmall Cub with the same problem. I've had at least 3 different mechanics checking it out and they can't seem to find the problem.
It has spark, fuel, etc. but won't start. If you find a solution to this problem please let me know - I'll do the same.

Thanks,
Brian

When you're bringing that engine up on No1 compression and at TDC, check your rotor to see if
it is pointing to No1 in the cap. It may be off
since it will run a little bit. Hal

Double check to make sure that the #1 piston is on compression (you should feel a push on your thumb on the spark plug hole as it comes up) If you are positive the timing is correct, before tossing the magneto off, I would check the spark. It should jump a minimum of ¼ inch (half inch is better) and be crisp blue spark. If you have that, then the magneto isn’t the problem. If you have a yellowish spark or the spark is kind of fuzzy, start replacing points, condenser, and coil in that order.

Check for fuel flow to the carburetor, sticking float (sticking shut) or proper carburetor settings. A starting point for the adjustment screws is 1.5 turns out on both.

Not much else if the engine had good compression.
