Hey

Is it possible to cut a section out of the pipe that connects the radiator to the water pump and insert a block/in line coolant heater? I have trouble starting the old girl on those blistery days and I thought it might help. Thanks to everyone in advance and I look forward to hearing from ya's.
Sincerely Allan Lance

Lance:
I can't exactly remember the W6 configeration but I believe it is simlar to the W4. I have a water jacket plate on the left side. Removing this plate you can see the cylinder walls of the block. There is enough space to mount a block heater into that plate and have the element sit between the cylinders. This is right where you want it, real close to the combustion chamber. Even at -40 just 15-20 minnutes its starts like summer.
Good Luck.

You might try putting a fitting in the engine block drain and using it as an inlet. Remove the rad drain and replace with a pipe fitting. With a 1500 watt tank heater installed such that the heated coolant goes UP and into the block.Set like this will heat much faster and more efficently, as heat rises. You also now have a quick way to drain etc. the cooling system-just remove a heater hose. A lower rad hose would heat the rad first, not much of a help in heating the block at number 4 cylinder. All the tractors we had were plumbed like this, starting in 1954 with a---- SW6TA. this works well, does not cost too much-make sure the heated coolant flows uo with as short a hose as possible. QR

Use a tank-style heater. Replace the engine block water drain plug with a 5/8" heater hose barb, run a hose from it to the inlet of the tank heater, install a tee fitting where your temp guage sender is currently located, reinstall the temp sender into one side of the tee, install another 5/8" hose barb into the other side of the tee and run a hose back to the outlet of the tank heater.
