Super AV Steering Arm Fit 140?

My 140 has a bent steering arm (previous owner must have tried straddling trees or fence posts). Will a steering arm from a Super AV fit a 140?

Second question: Has anyone tried straightening a steering arm? It looks like putting heat on the shaft and twisting with a wrench would work, but it is a cast part and, as we all know, messing with castings can be trouble.

Bill: Please try to be lees critical of the guy who bent it, at least the one on my 130. 20 years from now you will feel the same. haha

Bill: I heated and straightened one on my 130 about 20 years ago. Those actually get soft quite easily. I found very easy metal to work with. Is this the centre arm? The one I straightened was left side on top of spindle. We left it right on tracror, removing the ty rod from it. Had a pipe to slide over the steering arm. We also used hammer, tapered punches and some flat steel to hammer against. We went gentle and actually left few hammer marks. Keeping it red hot was the secret.

Hugh,
Thanks for the good news about how easy it is straighten out. Hey, I've shouldn't be throwing stones at anyone as I have put my share of cars, trucks and tractors into ditches, repair shops and so forth.

Speaking of bending castings, this tractor also has a bent front left cultivator lift arm (the piece that reaches vertically upwards from the cultivator implement bar and connects to the rod coming from the rocker shaft. Standing sideways the piece in question is pretty much in line with the generator when the lift is up.) It is hard to figure how that arm got bent outward. Maybe the tractor was laying over in a ditch and they hooked a chain to this bar. At any rate, this is a bigger casting arm piece to heat-
up and bend. I'm going to do it sometime, but wonder if the heating and bending will change the part's strength. I guess in the worst case, if it bends again, we can stiffen the piece by welding on channel iron. Ever see cultivator linkage get bent outward?

The good news is that IH used a lot of cast steel, which not only bends well it also welds like steel. Most any of the cast pieces which are under a lot of stress will be steel.

You can tell by grinding lightly. Get a piece of steel and an old piece of cast iron like an engine block to learn the difference in the sparks they throw. I could describe it but you have to see them yourself to really know the difference. (Cast iron is more red and does not sparkle much)
