I just got a farmall and it needs alot work and parts.i don't know much on farmalls i growed up around ACs.Can someone tell me what is the can looking thing on the opecent side of the brether is it has a hole in the top of it.It looks like it has a pipe that goes on it and there is hole in the cover for the pipe what was it for.It looks like it had a bottom but has rusted out I just don't know it could be for.i was told it was a M

I agree with The Red, If it looks like it would have held about a gallon of fuel, it's probally the old gas tank, which was used when starting the tractor, once running, you'd switch over to the main tank and run on a cheaper fuel. Go grab a manual at your IH dealer or telephone one, they'll mail you out and operators for $15-$20, best money spent.

Brain it sounds like you had the duel fuel settup on that M. Must be an early one. That sounds like the auxiliary fuel tank that was used to start the M on gas, then you could switch over and run it on distillate or kerosene from your main tank.

Red - you said an early model I have a 42 M and a 48 H that have the tanks , how late were the duel systems used ????
