Does anybody know the serial number of the last F12 made in 1938? The book shows 1938 starting with 117518. It also shows the F14 in 1938 starting at 124000. I would be really surprised if the F12 ended at 123999, as it seems more likely that it ended close to 124000, and that is what they rounded it off to. The reason for the question is that I have an F12 with number 123877, which is really close to 124000. So I am curious if someone knows what the last number was, since it seems this tractor is one of the last F12s made. Any help appreciated.

Bill, my IH Tractor Data Book By Alan C. King sez the last serial # of the F12 was FS123942. So, a few more were made after yours. FB

Would you say that it was built during the last week of F12 production? Kinda looks that way from the serial number....

Thanks Bob. I guess I need to put a few books on the santa list. So mine is 65 tractors from the end of production, and my guess about numbering was correct. I think this tractor needs to be restored, but I will probably put rubber on it, so I can take it off the property. Too bad someone cut the hood to use a straight exhaust pipe.

Dont convert it to rubber, the tires on the back of my F-14 are at $400.00 bucks each right now. Besides, I kinda like the looks of steel, but wouldnt wanna run it on a hard surface. I have seen other tractors on steel that have a wide steel band around the outside of the wheels with a 1/2in. thick or so rubber "band" (belt?)around the band so that the tractor could be operated on hard ground with out shaking you to death, and also not tear up the ground. That one is defenitly restoration material, go for it, its only money. Steve T

I like the looks of steel also, but will use the steel on another F12 that is original rust and faded paint, and will not be restored. I figure it runs, so why mess with it. This one is stuck, and smoked when it ran. I have a set of spoke wheels which take 36 inch rubber, which is much cheaper new, and somewhat available used. Your F14 must have the 40 inch rubber with the cast iron wheels and demountable rims. I passed up one of those for the cost of tires.

Hi Bill, Yup, she's got the 40in. rubber on it. If and when I get the chance to restore it, the rear tires will be the most expencive part. The engine seems to run O.K., but Ill probly go through it any way. I sent you an e-mail of my F-14, let me know if you got it or not. Steve T
