I recently purchased a pretty decent running 400 rowcrop. It has a distributor mounted live hydraulic pump, and a Behlen power steering unit under the hood. Although the power steering seems to work fine, I heard it making a slight "purring" sound, so I drained the hydraulic fluid resorvior, cleaned the screen, then refilled with TSC brand Hy-Tran (10-20w)same stuff I put in the rear diff/trans. I ran the steering wheel from lock to lock with the resorvior plug out to bleed out any air. Now it takes much more effort to turn the wheels. I"m wondering, did I use the wrong fluid. What do you all recommend?
Thanks

You didnt use the wrong fluid, Hytran is used in the hydraulic system and rear/trans case. You might have developed an air lock in the system. I believe there is plug on the Behlen steering motor where it can be bleed. Otherwise jack the front end of the tractor up and start motor and turn steering wheel back and forth from lock to lock and it might come alive.
