I found the problem tonight. Governor thrust bearing. Got it off and more of the same size balls fell out along with what was left of the cage. Going to the IH dealer Monday to find out how much this little bearing will cost. They really like me there. I own quite a few bricks in that building.

Anyone ever replaced this part on a C? How much did it cost?

Thanks to all you guys point me in the right direction.

Should be the same as my B. I think it was around $4-5. Came with the bearing and both races.

Part number 43481D. It was $15.28 in May of this year. The $5 item was the governor spring, $4.23.

The parts manual shows two different numbers. The one you mentioned in parentheses it says AETNA ED 2293 ORTIONAL WITH 55314D. The other number is 55314D in parentheses it says NICE 5971 OPTIONAL WITH 43481D.

Any idea what this information in the parentheses is all about? Were there different governors used on the Cs? How do I tell which bearing I should order? How did you know, or was only one listed when you got yours?

Thanks much,
Brian

Beats me, I just went up to the nice man at the counter and told him what I wanted. It matches the number in my "B" operator's manual, though. I figure the B and C governors are interchangeable since when I went to look for new governors, the A, B, C, and Supers were listed together. There was a different set of springs and weights available for that engine, which would give different speeds for the U-2 power unit. I would take what's left of the bearing in for identification if I were you.

Still heck of a lot cheaper than the H thruster and bearing.

The assembly in the H was $65 which was the thruster sleeve and the ball bearings all in one assembly to give you an idea.
