My Dad and I looked at a 53 Super M yesterday. The tin is very good, engine sounds good, needs rear tires, and a clutch.I think it could be had for 1500.00.The problem is the engine block has been repaired with this God awful looking 6in.by6in. patch covering a crack. It does not leak and hasn't for the 15 years the guy has had it.What's you'alls opinion?

I have a SMTA, Power steering, TA, Live hydralic power, Live pto. 12V. Have a loader W/hyd bucket on it use it for snow removal. Have chains & a heat houser on it, Havent used them for 4 years.
Has new tires on it, It bites in the snow good, Can allways use the hys bucket to get out if you get stuck, narrow front, Bought it for 1500.
Tractor, Complet loader, Heat houser, Chains,
Fenders.
Starts 25 30- with the 12V. I think its a 1955?
There was fluid in the tires when i got it.
This tractor is a good one but the M have band brakes & the SM"s have disk"s you can stand on them & still run into things, so I never take the loader off, It has saved lots of things around here from getting smashed.
Wouldn"t mind having a 3 point for it, any one have a pattern for one? I could make one.
These are good old tractors & will do lots of work.

I agree with the others you can find a better tractor for less money. I just bought a good 400 for $1750. Good luck shopping

Brian, If you were to put new tires on it, you"d have well over $2,000 in a tractor with a bad clutch. You cant consider an engine with a 6" patch to be a strong engine, so the fact its a Super M is moot. Nah, there are so many other decent tractors in the same price range. What you see there is a $700 to $800 tractor at best.

Brian: If I'm old tractor shopping and I see repaired castings, doesn't matter what size, little more than a parts tractor. Too much money.

I paid $1100 for mine about four months ago. It has a 3pt lift, old worn tires and no mechanical problems, just needs paint.

Old tires can last a long time at the rate I'll use it since I have two other tractors of different colors.

Brian, the early supers did not have live hydralics, about the only difference between a regular M and an early Super was the increased bore and disc brakes, the price seems too high with a cracked block, also look under the rear end housing and check for any cracks there due to an inner axle bearing failure and the bull gear pushing the balls into the bottom of the case. good luck Al

Depends on what you want to do with it. A 53SM should have live hydrolics and possibly some type of power steering. For general farm use, the patched block will pose no problems. If the hydrolics are OK, you've got a good tractor for farm use. However if you want to restore it to a true 53 SM, you may have do some searching to find another 53 block.

Brian:
Way too high! Sounds like a $700 dollar tractor.

poor tires? bad block? I'd say the price is too high. Look for a better one.

I have the same opinion as cowman. Way too much money for what you are getting.
