'39 H fuel questions

Did the '39 Farmall H have a gas tank with a smaller outlet than later models? My H is a very early one (four digit ser. #) and the new sediment bowl I got from the IHC dealer has a bigger size "threaded (male) shaft" than the female outlet on the bottom of the gas tank. I have no idea if my gas tank is original. There is no indication this tractor ever had a small "starting" gas tank -- no hole in the hood, etc. The carburetor does have a thumbscrew drain which I understand was for an all-fuel system. Can anybody "splain" what's up with the difference between the female gas tank outlet and the sediment bowl male fitting?

the early main tanks do have a smaller outlet, this is because the sed bowl was to be placed on the small starting tank.

H parts manual lists two fuel tanks and two sediment bowls. Serial break for the tanks is 15744, for the valves is 50866 (distillate or kerosene) -- does not give numbers for gas, just blanks, I assume the numbers are the same. It does not say what the differences are. You might be able to use an adapter, provided you can still line the fuel line up. My dad's 47 H had a thumbscrew drain on the carb when new, it did not have the small tank either--
