On my 52 SM, a few of the bolts that hold the outer break housing on the rear end housing have broke. I've got the part that holds the disc's off. The next part with the broken bolt's in look's to be a bearing carrier? Question is how do I get that peice out so I can drill and tap the bold holes. Does the bearing and the shaft come out with that housing? Thanks

Brian, I bought a 350 utiliy cheap, the guy thought the rear endwas bad, One the 350 when these bolts break it lets the pinion come out a little on the ring gear. sounds real bad then. My bolts came out pretty easy using a small chisel,I think the bolts work a liitle loose, then when the brake are applied hard it shears them off eventually, There are shims behind the bearing cage that you move from side to side or remove to adjust the ring gear pinion clearance.

Don't try to pry out the bearing carrier. It can't be removed unless you open the transmission and take the bull gear off the axle. The Bull gear runs in a slot in the bearing carrier.

Can you heat those broken bolts with a torch without damaging the bearing carrier? Hal

The carrier won't come out without removing the bull gear.
