I'm interested in putting A 4 cylinder M. moter in my 460. Can anyone tell me if it is practical. And what kind of problems can I expect.

Bryan,

Your M engine would not fit, basicly. It would work, with a lot of modifications, in a 560, or a H engine would work , with modifications, in your 460. The 460 rear end is a modified continuation of the H line in size and design. The 560 rear end is a continuation of the M size and design.

Last spring I won a bet by taking a rear engine plate off of a M and bolted it up to a 1456 rearend, they have the very same bolt patern.

Why would you want to replace a peppy 6 cylinder engine with a 4 banger?

Probably because he wants some power. I don't know if it will fit, but a good Super M will run circles around a 460!

I've had a Super MTA and I have a 460 Diesel right now that will eat a Super M's lunch all day long on 1/2 the fuel.

My peppy 6 cyl. is toast and all I use the tractor for is light duty chores and my M. has rear end problems. So if anyone knows if the bellhousing will bolt up please let me know. I would hate to tear them both apart only to find out that it won't work.
