i'm starting to put my F-14 engine back together and i need the front seals for the crankshaft. it looks like there are two felt seals in the front crankcase cover, but i think there is another seal, 30932D. i am not sure where it goes, but it is listed in the parts manual. i also didn't see it on the price list i have from Rice's.

do i need to worry about this seal? how about the two felt ones? i ask because the oil can drain back into the oil pan even if it gets past the nose of the crankshaft. i can't see much oil then making it past the pulley and out past the felt washers that are currently in the crankcase cover.

thanks,

andy b.

The seal # 30392 is a definite must. The original felt seals were for keeping dust and dirt out. I use a company in St. Louis, MO., Bearing Headquarters, who are able to cross over the original seal and bearing numbers to todays numbers. They order their seals and bearings from Chicago Rawhide. A company out of Des Moines by the name of Val-u-Bilt supplied me with a gasket kit that included the felts for the rear crankshaft seal. I'm jsut finishing up the restore on my own F-14. Looking good!

Give Chicago Rawhide a call at 1-800-882-0008 to see if they have any replacement seals for your tractor's front cover. Isn't there a seal on the rear of the crankshaft too? Hal

Hal,

glad you mentioned that. yes, i do also need the rear seal.

John,

i don"t believe the 30932D part replaces the felt seals. they look very different and the parts manual doesn"t suggest them as interchangeable. like i mentioned, maybe that seal isn"t very important, as the oil can drain back into the oil pan even if it makes it past the crankshaft seal. i think the felt seals are more important.

i"ll call Chicago Rawhide and Rice"s and see what they tell me.

I thought they in the main bearing cap installed in a groove. Hal
