Hey guys I've never posted on this board, but I just picked up a Farmall B. Can someone tell me the difference between a B and a BN? I was told that this was a B but it has no decals. If I get the S/N can someone tell me the year and what it is? Thanks for the help.

third party image

A B is 8 inches wider rear track than a BN. The differential shafts of a B are 4" longer on each side. 22" on a B, vs. about 18" on a BN.

The easy way to tell is to see if the right-hand seat bracket is mounted with the fender, or about 4 " away from the fender. A B seat has 4" space between the right fender and the seat bracket, a BN is against.

This is a pic of a B.

Thanks, I have space between the fender so I have a B. This thing is wider than I ever thought it would be. How can I tell what year this is?

Go to the Serial Numbers section on the left side of this page, go to Farmall, & pick A, B, etc. It'll give you the starting # for each year that they made them. Select the appropriate year where your's fits. If you don't have a tag on the seat bracket, look at the stamped # on the flat spot on the block by the #1 plug for the motor number. On early tractors they were usually the same, but not always. If you have a replacement block, it will be different, but might give you an idea. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

Thanks. I have a tag on the seat bracket. I'll check it out tonight.
