Cleaning up and installing M&W friction type throttle on my H. What is the material used in between lever and base plate. I got the throttle off a tractor that set out for years. The gasket like material is falling apart and turned green. Not sure what to replace it with. Thanks Andy

Suspect the original friction disk was some sort of semiflexible asbestos or composition material.

I had the same problem (disks worn thru or missing) with a couple of M&W throttles on my tractors. I purchased a sheet of 1/8" thick asbestos(?) impregnated, high temperature gasket material at a steam show and cut my own friction disks out of it. The disks are still working great after 5+ years of service.

Tip: If the mating iron surfaces on the underside of the lever handle and the mounting base are rusty/rough, sand 'em smooth before installing the new friction disk.
