Is the engine in a 203 combine worth anything? The last time it was running was about a year and a half ago. The machine is going to the scrap yard but I hate to scrap the engine if it has value for use in a tractor. Eastern PA, 18092.

Thanks,

Bill

Was used in 504's and sure was used else where, sure seems like there would be some use for it. Was not used in H.

Hi John, The 203 combine used the C153 IH engine.
That's according to my Borg Warner ignition book.
Probably the same engine as the H. If I was Bill, I would keep the engine. Hal

IF, I recall correctly, an IH 203 Combine, has the same block as an H, like I said, IF.

I was under the impression that it the same cubes as a H but the block is styled like the C-113 or the A.B.C blocks.
But I have been wrong before!

You are right Shaggy. I put one in a Super A. Makes it a real hot rod.
Had to do a little machine work on the drive shaft and use a different throw out bearing, but she sure runs...in fact too fast. I only run it about half throttle.

could you explain the machining you had to do to the drive shaft and which throwout bearing did you use?
thanks

Man...it has been awhile. I had to shorten the shaft about a half inch. I used a pilot bearing from a 300U because it rides in the flywheel. I used an old flywheel and enlarged the hole in the event I messed up.
The throw out bearing was from a 404 as well as as the clutch and pressure plate.
You will have to fool with getting the radiator and fuel tank raised by using spacers and brackets. The 153 is taller.
I then had to use elbows to get the exhaust to exit right.
The only thing I did not do is put a proper air cleaner on it. I had to use a paper one because the block is not machined for an air cleaner. I tried to mount one from a 504...but it really looked bad because it wa so large.
It is a little work...but it sure makes a belly type finish mower talk. I can throw a golf ball half a mile if I hit one.
