hydrolic lift?

my 1947 farmall b appears to have a hydrolic lift on it is this possible? it also has sample stamped on the side of the block any idea why?

here are some numbers and there locations.
behind oil filter 251069r1
on hydrolic box under gas tank 354352r1
belox batt. box 351687-r3
9-2-47 on plate on gear box
9090D on belt drive
05-12185 on hydrolic unit by steering joint.
has lift units under tractor and one arm on each side of motor.
I posted a picture on the photo section.

I have seen a couple early Super A blocks with "SAMPLE" cast into them, not stamped. I have been told that IH would occasinally contract out some castings to a new supplier and have the word "SAMPLE" cast into the first batch to mark them for QC on delivery. If they checked out OK, they would use them in production. A '47 would have been about the same time (and same factory) as the tractors I have seen.

I am curious about some of the other specifics of your tractor that might tell another piece of the story.

What serial number is the tractor?
What part number is cast into the block?
What date code is cast into the block?
What engine number is stamped into the block (below #1 spark plug)?
Is there a place to mount a hydraulic pump cast into the block (below magneto, next to the steering shaft)?
What hydraulic parts are on the tractor?

hydrolic unit under gas tank 354352r1
plate on gear box 9-2-47
on rear belt drive under seat 9090d
hydrolic sending unit by steering column 05-12185
cast into block sample in middle behind distributor cap or close to pic added on pic post did not know how to put it here

I looked at these numbers and your picture. It is beginning to look like a Heinz 57.

251069R1 is a Super A block. Part number on bell housing is for a Super A. 354352R1 is a Super A Touch-Control block, but it wasn't used until serial 275883 (mid-1949). You might find a date code similar to the (*9.2.47*) you found, except the year will probably be a letter like (*9.2.S*). The support for your steering shaft is not in the original location for a B or a Super A.

To help settle this for certain,
Do you have a tractor serial number? This is normally on the left seat support, but I see you have an aftermarket seat. (How do you know it is a '47?)
Can you find an engine number? This is STAMPED into a flat machined boss on the right side of the block. It is at the very top edge of the block, close to the front. It is mostly hidden behind the control rod that goes forward to the governor.

The Farmall B did not sell stock with a hydraulic system of any kind on it. Some were modified by adding a belt driven pump and supply tank etcetera. I have no idea what the special means hopefully someone else here does and will chime in.

If you could post a picture or two that might help us figure out what you have.
