I recently purchased a farmall 966. Has a lot of play in the high, low, reverse lever. The throttle lever comes back to idle shortly after throttlong the engine up. What might be wrong besides being worn and is there any adjustments that can be made.

Hi Marv,

The shifting gizmo is that tractor's weak point.

Pull all of the sheet metal and follow those shift handles down to the transmissions. You are gonna find slop from the top to the bottom and probably on all three levers.

The big boys tell me that the bottom collars should be drilled out and 5/16" roll pins installed. Mine had welding rod stuck in 'em from an old farmer's "quick fix". :>)

Also, you might need some of those little "carb link connectors", which you can get from CaseIH.
