F20 cracked water jacket

The water jacket on a buddy's newly acquired F20 is cracked. He is wondering if this can be repaired by welding or brazing. And if so, what would be the best way to go about doing it? Thanks for any info.

Both the previous mentioned options would probably work. Our VAO Case has had a brazed block since 1955 when it was aquired as a basket case because it had a cracked block. Brazing was a common method for repairing water jackets in the old days. The drag saw engines out here in the woods would freeze and crack every winter. Most still around have at least some sign of their brazed repairs. Tell 'em to find a good metals person and it can probably be saved. If they do go the metal shop route, be sure to have them watch the bearings if the block is preheated prior to the work. If they are Babbit, they can easily be melted out or damaged in that stage.

They are not hard to fix. If its just a crack I'd vee it out with a grinder and fill with epoxy.

Here is what I did and it worked:
(1) Have a local blacksmith or a good welder weld the crack. (2) Cover the exterior with epoxy to smooth the surface and prevent rusting. (3) Paint the epoxy. (4) Seal the lower pipe to the block - a piece of an old tube makes an excellent seal. (5) Pour radiator sealant into the block to a level above the crack. (6) Let stand for several days while you work on other parts.
