I HAVE LIMITED EXPERIENCE USING A DYNO BUT WHEN I WAS RECENTLY TESTING MY 400 GAS THE PTO SPEED WAS 610 RPM. MY 400 DIESEL WAS 560 AND MY SMTA WAS ABOUT 540. WHAT SHOULD THEY BE? AT WHAT SPEED SHOULD I READ THE PRESSURE/HORSEPOWER GUAGE? THANKS FOR ANY HELP.

Tractor Data list's the rated engine speed at 1450
on the gas 400 and the pto at 540 rpm's. I think the diesel pto should be 540 too. The engines should be well tuned too.

We ran engines on the stationary dynamometer and on some tests we ran the engine with the converter transmission and loaded the transmission
using two dynamometers for load. Hal

Step one is to make sure the tractor is running at the correct high idle speed. This means full throttle, no load. If this speed is not correct, especially if it is too slow, your final results will not be correct. Next, load it down to rated speed and read the horsepower guage. I don't have my book in front of me, so I can't tell you what the high idle and rated PTO RPM's should be, but I would think that a SMTA and the two 400's should be a lot closer together than the numbers you posted.
