Got dad's old 450D out to run it a little last night. The injector pump is leaking around the throttle shaft. Do not think it's oil...looks more like diesel. Maybe the plungers are leaking inside and over filling the cavaity.
Dad said he had this pump rebuilt a few years before he died. I have not run the tractor a lot, but I am a little afraid to tackle such a task as this. I can do ok on mechanic work...but may be in over my head on this one.
Any ideas...you guys are the experts.
Thanks.

Is this an A series pump that has a scavenging pump on it or a B series pump that feeds the waste fuel from the plunger direct to the tank? If its an A pump filling the pump sump with fuel it is most likely the scavenging valve leaking. If a B series, most likely the drain line that extends from the bottom of the case is plugged. You can run a wire or something up through there to open the drain and then drain and change the sump oil. My B series pump on my MD drips a drop out of the drain every few minutes or so, but it runs well and it"s not worth bookoo bucks for a pump rebuild at this point. Brian

Thanks. It just makes a mess if I let it set in one spot and idle. Guess I could hang an asprin bottle on it for now. That is the only leak the old tractor has.
Thanks to all who responded.

I agree with the captain, if you do not have any repair shops in your area for injector pumps you can contact Midwest Diesel. Hal Here's their website:

Someone once told me that an expert was a drip that was once under pressure... :>)

Anyway...I take my diesel injector pumps to a diesel pump shop. All other mechanic work I do myself including rebuilding (not just putting in a rebuilt) TA's etc. I'd suggest you take the pump in to a shop where they have a nice clean environment, all the necessary tools, and an experienced injection pump repairman. My nickels worth!
