I just joined you guys on here yesterday. I'm picking up a '45 M tomorrow for $200. It's got a stuck motor and the rest is supposed to work. What I'm wondering is are the parts for those readily available? I've seen lots of stuff for the engine and I'm thinking of building the motor to Super M specs. But are there parts out there for the tranny and differential if I need 'em. I'm planning on restoring it for shows and pullin'. Thanx guys

You will have no problem finding parts. Quite a few can be obtained on this site.

Just finishing a project. 1945 M. You need to start getting parts and sources. J. P. Tractor Salvage in Fredericktown, Mo and OEM Tractor Parts are two that come to mind. If you need phone numbers let us know.

What you are planning to do is going to be a lot of fun. Finding the parts is part of that fun and I am not being sarcastic. You won't make any money on it but it will be a very satisfying thing to do.

Thats why I'm doing it. I am not planning on making money on it. I went to a pull last weekend and it was a blast. I want to build a motor that will consistantly win. And a super M in that weight class is a way to do it. Does anyone make different grind cams? Or possibly a super low 1st gear I can change mine out with? I know they made some tractors with the super low first gear.

The Old Iron tractor pulls are not about who wins and who losses. Its about getting the old tractor out and having fun with her. I know a lot of old timers that do the antiuqe pulling and it wouldn't take long for them to start complaning about your m with a super m engine not being original. Not much they can do and that sort of thing does not both me. but it does take the fun out of it. Personally my tractor will probably get beat every time I go out becasue I kept it original becasue I did not have the cash to bore it out. but I had one hell of a good time working on her and would not trade that for anything.

Yeah I know what you mean. In these parts as long as your not doing stupid Mods like putting blowers or big block V-8's and the parts are for an antique you're good. A lot of guys around beef up there engines, it' quite competitive. Around here they say " he who has the biggest checkbook wins." No, really though it's competitive around here.

Parts aren't to bad to find. Case/IH still has most of them. As far as the engine I'd fill all the cylinders with tranny fluid and let it sit a few days. You might find after doing that you have a good runner with out opening it up. I have an H the sat under an oak tree for at least 25 years and after a few days of tranny fluid in the cylinders I was driveing it and it doesn't smoke and runs real good. Did have a stuck valve but got that fixed just by pulling the valve cover and working it a little
