what keeps the two bull pinion shafts from rubbing end to end? they go through a needle bearing and then the side gears of the differential, but this one had nothing to keep them from rubbing end to end. some type of thrust washer or bearing? thanks,

Bob, I'm not sure if this will be of any help, but on my 806, the shafts you refer to are each supported by two tapered roller bearings which constrain the shaft movement that you described.

Nothing. This is one of the places where Mother Mc. cheated a little. The only time these gear ends move against eachother is whem one wheel turns faster than the other. I have worked on these tractors and if the end play from wear is not taken up by removing shims from the pinion shaft bearings the pinon gears wiii cock and pull from ome side of the gear and if enough load is applied the corner of the gear will break off.
