If the shaft has a worn groove from the old seal Chicago- Rawhide has speedi-sleeves to cover that and a new seal. Hal

It's an easy fix. Don't put it off for too long as hydraulic oil is not a good engine lubricant.

Yup, that's entirely possible. The problem would be with the hydraulic pump, oil is escaping by the shaft into the crank-case. A new seal at the gear end of the pump should fix you up.

there are 2 different pumps, the early one used an oil seal on the front, and the later ones used an oring. the kit containg the orings, etc. is available from dealers part number 355208R91, also includes manifold gasket. If you have earlier one, seal number is 355742r91. If shaft is grooved the new seal is thinner and can be seated differently to run in unworn spot. If you have oring type that is grooved you will need to take the shaft to a machine ship for reapir.
