Andre560, First Please post a few pics of you SMTA-LP. Especially of the LH side ,lH side where the fill valve is on the tank. On SMTA-LPs They were outsourced to LP tank Companys in Lubbock and San Angelo Texas. When the truck off loaded the tankless and carbaraitionless tractors. The trucks would be loaded up with tanks and carbs anf sent back to the factory. These tractors ARE concidered Factory even though they were outsourced.
The fill valves is usually a longwise tank with the fill, bleed, vapor valves being a Monovalve assembly @ the 11:00 position at the rear of the tank, while sitting in the seat. Though I have seen one SMTA-lP with the Crosswise tank like the Stage II Supers. Ocassionally one will show up that was field converted too. With a totally odd tank configuration.
The S suffix on your tractors tag denotes ...TA w/ LPTO.
There is presious little info in IH archives. Most info outthere has been gleaned from old IH mechanics and parts guys and such.
The Hood trim job is a very neat and cleanly done. So that sounds right.
There are technically 4 stages to the SM series.
Stage I, bacilly a regular M with a larger engine & disc brakes.
Stage II, same as above with the addition of live hydrolics. (pump driven of the distributer) and the battery was moved under the seat. and a Super C seat assembly was used to accomidate this.
Stage III, Same as above with the addition of TA and LPTO. It was here when the torque tube was lengthen to accomidate the TA, also hood got lenghten too.
Stage IV .....AKA.....Farmall 400 TA. Additional refinements in indiviual hydraulic control.
hollar when you get the pics posted. Hope this helps.
Later,
John A.

There were no MTA LP from IH factory. Some were sent to another company to have the LP installed.
Lot of those had a D or E on serial tag and engine
because they were shipped with high altitude pistons to raise compression.

If it was factory LP it would have the letter code "C" after the serial number. Trust me, I have one with C J. LP with rockford clutch

What do you mean, "can't find that no. in the serial no. link???" You are not going to find the EXACT number listed... The list only shows the first serial number built that year.

If your serial number falls after one year's number, but before the next year's number, it was built in that year. In your case, the serial number falls after the first one built in 1954, and 1954 was the last year Super Ms of any sort (including MTAs) were built. Yours could have only been built in 1954, which makes sense because Super MTAs were only built in 1954.

The SMTA serial listing on this site is incorrect. It says the 1st SMTA was L600001, the L meaning Louisville. SMTA's were built at the Farmall plant and had SN's of 60001-83523, not the 6 digit numbers of the SM's built at Louisville.
