I went to take my Farmall MD for a ride yesterday and after a period of time it just shut off. After some further looking I am not getting any fuel to the motor. I removed the original filtering setup last spring and installed a spin-on filtering setup(less leaks). I checked the fuel flow going into the filter and after the filter going into the diesel pump with great flow at both locations(tank is full). Also the pump was full of diesel fuel not oil like it supposed to be. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Brad

The pump is full of fuel usually indicates a leak on the primary pump packing or seals. Earlier pumps "A" type had packing, later "B" type had seals. Get in touch with a good diesel shop and usually they can help get the parts. What will happen next is the front seal on the pump will deteriorate and start dumping fuel into the motor. Best to get it fixed now.

I have some diesel fuel in the crankcase now. I am planning on changing it this afternoon. I am unsure of how long it has been in there though. I hope there is not any damage done already. It is also a type "A" pump on it from a TD6. It was new 7 or 8 years ago. A dealer found it on their shelf.

The pump can be removed leaving the gear in plcae, and there is a keyed shaft so it goes back where it came from as far as timing. Geoff

Hello. I have an 826 with a BOSCH rotary pump. The seals went out of it too, with the same problem. Somehow it would run, but all the while fuel leaked into the crankcase. Have the pump serviced emmidiately, but first, if you're going to remove it youself, find out where you need to have the engine timed to on the flywheel. Most shops have injection pumps sent out, and they come back certified and set to a certain degree setting. Find out what that setting is before you remove it. There might be an inspection plate on the housing around the flywheel that is easily removed. I turned the flywheel with a big screwdriver till the pointer indicated I had arrived at the correct degree setting. Hope this saves you some trouble. Dave

I don"t know that the problem with running would be the seals. I always had good pressure even though the seals were shot. Do you have a pressure gauge on the pump? Could be you have a problem with air in one of the lines? Have you tried bleeding the system?

I have a pressure gauge on it and it used to be in the high end of the good pressure. now I have no pressure. I did not bleed it off. It runs for like 2-3 min with no miss (perfectly) and then it acts like it runs out of fuel. When I restart it on gas I can open the throttle lever wide open and I get no smoke when I normally would.

Sounds like you have two separate problems. As stated earlier contact a diesel shop like Connestoga Diesel in Pa. and get the parts or send them the pump. Before you take the pump off though, go through the system makeing sure there is no blockage and then bleed it as the manual suggests. See if that won"t bring the pressure back up. Geoff
