I want to convert my Cub to 12 Volts and the starter needs replacing anyhow. I think the later Cubs were 12 volts, or at least there is a wireing diagram in my reproduced shop manual that shows a 12 volt system. Will the later Cub Starters work on my 1952 Cub? Thanks in Avance Bob

The 12 volt starters probably have lugs for an external solenoid rather than the set-up for a switch screwed directly to the starter.

I wouldn't change it anyway. If it doesn't start OK on 6 volts, something else needs to be fixed. Mag equipped Cubs seem to actually start better on 6 volts.

I,don't know about the 12 volt starter, but I changed a 48 Cub over in 92 for my neighbor. I used the original 6 volt it still works great. An mechanic told me that 12 volts were easier on these old 6 volt starters. I don't know how much help that is but it's what I know about it.

I think you're right Jeff. I would rebuild the 6 volt starter and use it.
I don't ever remember seeing a 12 volt cub that came originally as 12 volts..
