Just purchased this tractor and in the process of powerwashing, I am uncovering lots of yellow paint, that looks to possibly be the original color.

It's been painted over red, but would very much like the original color for restoration purposes.

Anyone have a clue whether this should be yellow or red? Is the yellow significant to anything?

It sounds like your tractor was once a piece of Dept. Of Highways equipment. They did use a lot of these tractors for state road use such as mowing. They painted all of their equipment yellow. But it was probably IH Red to begin with. I have a 240 utility that my Dad purchased new in 1958 I also grew up with it, and it"s still a strong runner today. A real little workhorse.
