I'm looking to buy a 1969 656 dsl hydro. It has 10,050 hrs on it and it's never had a overhaul. It doesn't use that much oil unless you really make it work. The Hydro has been rebuilt before, but it slips in high range it you pull somthing too heavy. I was just wondering what I should offer him on this tractor. Any help would be great thanks

I agree with the last guy that the engine may need overhauled soon. Most diesels of that vintage were only designed for about 5000 hrs of hard work beore overhaul. The trans is iffy, though. Are you sure that the slippage in high range isn't just because you're trying to pull too much? That trans is just like the rest of the hyd system... if you overload it, the fluid goes over a relief valve. I wouldn't worry much unless it slips under moderate loads.

Bret, I just bought a 656 diesel hydro. Mine has 3400 original hours on it. I'm not certain if the hydro has been rebuilt or not, but it is working well. I gave $5,000 for mine which I think was great. It is a great tractor for pto work or raking hay. Not a tractor you want to pull hard for long periods of time. I have heard the hydro can be expensive to rebuild, but never priced it myself. Let me know what you work out. For the hours and work it may need. I would offer about $1500.

10,000 + hours on a IHC D-282,(if it's it's a 69 that what I would think it would have in it) thats a lot of hours, it's gonna need a overhaul real soon as for the Hydro tranny, if it needs work that can run into some big $$$$
