Can someone provide some pictures of the seat mounting on a 140. I just purchased one and someone has mounted a different seat. I need to know what I have to make/buy to get it corrected. Right now my knees hit the steering wheel.

Thanks!!

Brian: If you are over 6' like me neither the standard pan seat nor the delux seat that was optional at the time will be any better than what you have. That has always been the down fall of these little offsets from A through to 140. I have both type seats and by using 1.5" square tubing along the seat rails you can raise seat and place it back more. I have two 1.5" square tubes under delux seat of my 130. I did this as the rear rockshaft for fast hitch was striking and breaking seat.

I have photos scanned of these, just don't know how well the square tubing modification shows up. It's actually quite easy to do, just mount the tubing along the rail seat mounts on, extend them back about 4" beyond rail, then mount seat on those and back about 3 to 4 inches further than you could on old rail. Only way I know to make these little offsets comfortable for a tall man. I tried a few other ideas first, always resisting raising the seat. That indeed turned out to be the secret. My 130 seat is 3" higher than normal and having snow blade on it, the one I do shuttle work with. 130 has two 1.5" tubes cross ways, and two length ways on top of that.

I have 2 Super A and one regular A. I am just over 6'. My friend is about 5' 8" and he has trouble with this as well. None of them I have trouble with being comfortable on. This 140 though, they have mounted this seat up 3" square tubing running long ways with a slider plate and some type of lawnmower seat with leaf springs under it. It don't look bad, just hits me in the knees and is a pain in the butt getting on. I just don't like sitting that high up either. The steering wheel on this 140 is the factory 18" while my Super As and other A is the 15". That may made some difference as well.

If you find some of the pictures, I would appreciate seeing them sometime.

Brian: I have two of the factory deluxe seats and one pan seat on my SA, 130 and 140. I also have one 15" steering wheel and will admit the combination of pan seat and 15" wheel is quite comfortable.

I have never been happy with those deluxe seats IH started making optional on for SA, 100, 130 and 140. Most 140 have the optional deluxe seat. I have single point fast hitch on my 130 and 140 tractors and the rear rock shaft strikes the seat, if back all the way. It will strike pan seat as well. I have looked at countless solutions, and not sure I have the answer yet. I put the light square tubing under seat for two reasons; to stop hitch from hitting seat and be able to put seat back further.

I am looking for a better seat for 130 and 140, but I want one that looks right for the tractor. The local CaseIH dealer had some seats with suspension, looked like replacments for 74 or 84 series tractors. I did some measuring on tractor, looking at fitting one of those seats. Just have to pick style that suits best.

I have also looked at cutting steering shaft, installing a U-joint then raise the steering wheel from 1 to 3 inches. I haven't decided just where to cut, within 6" of wheel one could have a tilt steering wheel.

I looked at photos I have scanned of tractors. They don't give much detail of 1.5" square tubing under seat. If you wish to send an email I will e mail back photos. They will at least give you an idea on how it looks.
