New POINTS&CONDENSER. Still no spark. Some questions. 1. Takeing off the cap where the plug wire go. I find a tower pointing to the wire cap.In that tower I find a spring [all bent to #$%*]. Is it supose to be a spring or one of the (carbon thing) like on inside df cap? 2. On the back side of the tower 2 wires comming out 1 goes to the top df coil. The other points down at the coil suport. On the coil suport a short 1/4" of the same kind of wire pointing up. Are they suposed to be hooked togather? 3.On the shaft for the points. ther are 2 flat sides, and 2 round sides. To set the points do I use the round (high side)?
Thanks for all the help so far Bill

1. yes, there is a spring there but it should have a carbon brush on it like the ones in the cap. I have pulled a few apart and found just a spring similar to what is in one of those push type pens. Rice Equipment is the only one I know of that has those.
2. As was stated thats a safety gap. If you have the mag off the tractor and have a way to spin it fast, you should see a spark jump that gap.
3.Use the round side. I think its .013 on the gap.

You do not need to have the cap or the cover for the coil on, but you do need to have the magnet in place if you try spinning with say an impact wrench or whatever.

the spring that you say is bent is supposed to be a spring. it transfers the spark from the coil to the center brush on the distributer cap. as for the second wire on the back of the tower, this is a safety gap. if you turn a hot mag with no sparkplugs hooked up the spark will jump from the top wire to the bottom wire. there is a specified distance that the gap is to be set at but I don't know the distance off-hand.
