Frosty Problem

Can anyone tell me exactly where the problem is when the governor linkage freezes up on Farmalls like an M or my 450.
I've had this same problem with my Farmall M, the M that the road association owned and my 450 so it's obviously a common problem.

I'm assuming it's condensation, perhaps in the crankcase, that puts moisture in the governor linkage somewhere.

The problem only shows up when temperatures drop below freezing. I've put some fiberglass insulation in front of the governor so the fan won't blow cold air on the governor and once the engine warms up the problem goes away.

I cleaned everything up when I overhauled the engine a few years ago but it's still there.

Anyone else had such a problem and know what causes it and a solution.

I made an intake heater for my H - 7" galvanized stovepipe around the outside of the muffler with a 2" metal conduit, 90 degree elbow coupled to that. The 2" elbow fits nicely around the outside of the the air cleaner intake pipe, after you take off the precleaner. Haven't had any carb icing problems since.

My guess whould be carb iceing and its a common problem this time of year. The way a carb works just plain makes that whole area cold and if its humid out its even worse. Every year about this time of year this subject always comes up

It could be in the tube between the govener or it could be carb iceing . you could pull the tube off and give it a good cleaning and lube it up with some oil so the shaft floates in the bushing better , but i am leaning more to the carb iceing and sticking the throttel plate .
