Farmall A/B rear end question

Did they ever make a B with a offset rear end like the A? The Farmall I bought had the narrow front end, a U-2 powerunit engine, seat had been changed so no serial tag either. The rear end has no axel tube on left side, right side has axel tube part # 6823 DD, which my part book shows for a model B. The drawbar looks original and fits properly, no signs of cuts and rewelding. The A and B axel tubes from what I can tell should be about 4 inches diferent in length. Would this be some kind of aftermarket change, or did the factory make a few this way? Thanks for any ideas.

What you have is a junk yard special.

I have seen several B's with an A left side final drive( no axle extension). The drawbar from an A then fits perfectly. Had 2 guys try to pass these off to me as BN's. What you have is a B that is very unstable, you will need weight on the drivers side. I would suggest the heavy hub[wheel] from an A and a wheel weight. Don't operate on slopes untill you get that weight!

It does already have the cast wheel hub on the right side. I used it for mowing this year. I started restoring this winter and changed to an adjustable wide front. It looks to me like the A and B Axel tubes are different lengths causing seat mounting bracket problems, the B seat bracket on the right bolts to the top of the axel tube with a extra bracket, instead of up against the fender. Does anybody know how easy is it to change the axel tube? I assume I would need to change the differential shaft also due to shorter length of axel tube.

Not a big deal to change tubes and yes the shaft has to be changed as well. remember that with every axle width change the drawbar has to correspond. You have 3 choices A width, BN 4inches shorter per side, and B. If you would use a BN tube on the right side the seat bracket would then be up against the fender, of course that would mean a custom width drawbar.

All Bs that I have seen where off set to the right side. And most parts from As and Bs will interchange.
