HI ALL, THE 300 MY DAD BOUGHT NEW, AND I SOLD 19 YEARS AGO, HAS COME BACK HOME. WITH JUST SHY OF 10000 HOURS ON IT I AM PLANNING A TOTAL OVERHAUL. THE PLAN IS TO MAKE IT PERFECT, AND AS ORIGINAL IN APPEARANCE, AS POSSIBLE. BUT LIKE ALWAYS I WANT TO GET AS MUCH HORSEPOWER AS I CAN WHILE I AM AT IT. WHAT INTERNAL ENGINE IDEAS DO YOU GUYS HAVE ABOUT CAM, HEAD, PISTONS, CARBURETION ETC? I PLAN TO USE IT AT PLOWING DAYS NOT FOR PULLING. THANKS IN ADVANCE,
DEWAYNE

Bulldog, I just overhauled my 400 and with the stock block the only thing i was allowed to change was to put the firecrater pistons in it and the newstyle hardened valves. I got the pistons from the company Red Power so you might want to look there to see what you can find.

Bulldog; dont know about getting more hp with stock engine. What just crossed my mind was has anybody ever had their tractor engine professionally balanced. Seems this would make the engine run smoother and possibly give you a little more power.

When I rebuild my 300, I was going to have it balanced too. I have some vibration issues at high idle that I do not have on my C. Makes it not very fun to run all day when plowing. What I don't know is if it is engine or drive train (TA, clutch, etc..). Do you guys experience this on any of yours? Seems my 300 is worse than my H too.

I dont know how far one would go in balancing an engine. Would you balance the fan? I think you would have to balance the flywheel and clutch. Dont know, never had an engine balanced but I can see where it would pay off.

Hi , I had the engine in my 1755D Oly balanced last year during a major overhaul . Cost about $150 if I remember right . Can hardly feel it running now at 1800 rpms . Rated is 2400 . I don't know if it gave it any more HP but it should add to it's lifespan considerably . Harmonic vibrations will eat an engine up . Balancing doesn't eliminate them but it does reduce them . IMHO , Take care ...Randy
