We have a SM whose engine was siezed up. We just got it broke loose however we cannot rotate the engine one entire revolution. We're guessing there are ridges built up in two cylinders. We drained a lot of water from the crankcase. Any advice on how to remedy?

thanks in advance

Ben: A Ridge in the cylinder will not cause the problem your describing. The problem your describing is usually a result of a tractor setting with the valve cover off and water entering the engine through the head. More than likely the tappets that ride on the camshaft are rusted fast in their guides. The engine should be dissambled to resolve this problem, however, if you can access the tappets use some good pentrating oil on them and work them with a bar. If there not too bad they should come loose.

How long was it full of water? If it has been in there for years, best bet is to rebuild it.

Oh boy. Ben since you got it turned a little, pour a LOT of Marvel Mystery Oil into each cylinder and let her sit for a week or two. Patience is really important so you don't break a connecting rod. Report back in a week or so. If you got some movement, I think you will be successful in freeing her up.

Ben if you drained water out of the oil pan, odds are you had water in the cylinder, if this is the case your best bet to make this tractor run good is to pull the head.If you don`t have any busted cylinder, you can cut the ridge out and hone the cylinders and grind the valves. That is if you plan on keeping this M.
