I have a 1952 cub and when I place my foot on the clutch pedal, the pedal begins to slightly pulsate, indicating to me that the throw out bearing is not meeting the clutch squarely. I replaced the throw out bearing and bearing support last year. I get a clear neutral but when I start off I get a quiver or vibration through out the drive train of the tractor. I have check everything I can think of and I come up with the pilot bearing may need changing or the clutch and pressure plate may also need changing. I would like some input before I start throwing money at it. Thanks JDB

When I installed the clutch in the Cub I am currently restoring, I replaced the throw out bearing with one from Case/IH. When I installed the bearing between the mounting bracket and tightened down the bolts, it wouldn't pivot. I ended up shimming the bracket apart so the bearing would pivot. Did yours pivot in the bracket? Otherwise I would have said what others said in that the fingers where not adjusted evenly. Roger

Sounds like the 3 clutch fingers are not all adjusted to the same height. They should be set for 1 1/8" to 1 1/4" vertical height from the plate surface to the surface of the fingers. Actual height is not as important as having all 3 set to the same height.

When I replaced the throwout bearing I took the pressure plate off and checked the clutch disc. It had very little wear on it. I did not put a rule on the fingers to check for them being level. When I reinstalled the pressure plate the fingers looked good, and I did not see any big difference between them.

What type of throw out did you get? The only ones that work well in cubs is the IH type I think its ABS or something This may be backwards though.Usally that sounds like a worn out clutch. JON

I installed the regular farmall graphite bearing, and I have it in correct. The clutch disc looks in good shape with very little wear. I check the flywheel surface and it was good & smooth. When I take it down I am going to check it again with a dial indicator.
