What is a reasonable market value for an `40 model A complete with working cultivator, planter and fert. boxes, lister plow, and 2-bottom disk plow? It has always been in the shed and ran well 5 years ago when my grandfather parked it there. He has passed away since, so some sentimental value could be added. What would ya'll give for it? Thanks!

Greetings:

The price on tractors seems to vary considerably based on where you are located. I am in Rochester, NY and prices seem higher here than in other parts of the country. An A with multiple inplements seems to go for about $1,200-$1,700 when the tractor is in decent working order. BTW, where are you located? I would not mind adding more implements to my 1940 Farmall A.

How long is a piece of string? The A and equipment is worth somewhere between $200 and $2,000. If it were my grandfathers I pay a lot if I had to. If its in the family and you're trying to be "fair," you're on your own. Value on these old tractors has everything to do with condition, and to collectors with "correctness". A junker with flat tires and stuck motor is $200 or less. An original one with straight sheet metal and good mechanicals is valuable to collectors here in the Midwest. Auction reported prices seem unrealistically low, but junk often winds up at big consignment auctions. Hope this helps a little. By the way, the machinery is just starting to have meaningful collector value. Maybe it also has user value in your area. Ask a dealer.
