I was working on my MD with my father this weekend and we noticed that I have a large bounce in the front end when driving. We found out that one of the tires is out of round where it bolts to the hub. This opened up a discussion about how to mount the wheels. I said there is 4 ways he says 2 ways. Does anyone know if the three mounting "pads" on the rim were supposed to be put inside or outside, does it depend on the owner. Is there a right or wrong to do this. I just want to try to prove him incorrect because I think that I am right.

Kickback (and broken fingers) are the primary result of using any but the closest of the four possible options (16 if asymetry is counted). The bearings are robust enough to be no problem unless overloaded with a loader, and widw spacing (an unstreerable combo.

yes, there are 4 ways but you won't gain a thing by "proving" your dad wrong. better just say "yes dad" and let it go.

They were made that way for different spacings. Some farming applications would want different spacings. Total of 4 spacings.

4 ways. Most from the factory had them as close as possible so that it wouldn't walk out of the row as easily.

If I installed the tires with the pads on the outer part and the dish in will that add extra pressure on the bearings and such.

there are four settings inside and outside of the hub with the mounting lugs in and inside and outside of the hub with the mounting lugs out.
